Abstract

Objective: In order to develop a model for prevention oriented dental care system, by use of the computer program for individualoral health index, including such factors as the number of residual natural tooth, caries state, periodontal state, otheroral state, and the systemic state or oral health care habits, were considered.

Methods: One hundred ninety-six volunteers as out patients on a dental clinic were participated divided them with 6 categoriesof aged groups. Five important factors suggested at above as influencing the oral health index were selected in order tocalculate the statistical analysis with the regression model in each age group, with the different results. Equation to estimatethe oral health index were introduced at each individual age group in consideration of the different weight for importance ofeach factor.

Results: The proportion of each item as the number of residual primary or permanent natural tooth, caries state, periodontalstate, other oral state and systemic state or oral health care habit was recommended as a simple apply as 20:40:10:10:20 inpreschool children, 20:30:10:20:20 in school children, 20:35:10:15:20 in adolescent, 15:30:20:15:20 in young adult,20:20:20:20:20 in prime of manhood, and 20:20:30:10:20 in elderly people in sequence for each factor.

Conclusion: This results for proportions of the differential weight for the importance could be applied to estimate the individualoral health index by aged group, with the use of the computer program for the prevention based incremental oralhealth care system for individual.
